Gender Affirming Gear

At the Lionel Cantú Queer Resource Center, we recognize that gender affirming gear is often difficult to access for UCSC students for a variety of reasons. We do our best to bridge that gap by offering gender affirming gear to our students free of charge in our Gender Affirming Gear (GAG) Programs. Under the umbrella of our Gender Affirming Gear programs are the GAG Closet and Trans Goodies Program.

GAG Closet

The Cantú's GAG Closet is our in-office stock of GAG items that students are free to take free of change, no questions asked. It is regularly stocked with binders, trans tape and accessories, packers, STPs, bras, bra inserts, gaffs, tucking kits, and pasties. Q: How do I access the GAG Closet?

A: The easiest way to access the GAG Closet is to come to the Cantú (633 Crown Road in Merrill College, right next to KZSC) when we're open and take a look at the GAG items we have available in our closet! You can also specifically request a GAG item using our GAG Interest Form.

Q: What can I expect when I visit the GAG Closet at the Cantú?

A: When you come to the Cantú, you'll be greeted by our wonderful front desk staff. They can direct you to the GAG Closet and answer any questions you have, or if you prefer, you can find it on your own (it's on the right side of the large white clothing rack directly opposite the front door). Each drawer and shelf will be labeled. Someone may come up to you and ask if you'd like assistance, but no interaction is required to take a GAG item! You can just take your GAG item no questions out or can fill out the brief, anonymous check-out form in the closet.

Q: Do you have plans to offer other types of gender affirming items in the GAG Closet?

A: Yes! We're currently exploring an expansion of our selection, so sometimes you might see new types of items pop up in the GAG Closet. We regularly stock binders, trans tape and accessories, packers, bras, bra inserts, gaffs, tucking kits, and STPs. We hope to stock other types of gender affirming items in the future - if you have any suggestions for items or specific brands we can stock, please email them to Trans Education Specialist Chloe Simson at casimson@ucsc.edu.
